DATA INQUISITION
Reading performance, Live point cloud projection with kinect, variable size, 8min 37s
A dual-stage setup defines the reading performance of «DATA
INQUISITION,» where the presence of the performer is mediated entirely
through digital projection. On one side of the stage, the performance
involves a reading from a long poem set in a speculative future. The
narrative weaves through themes of urban surveillance, environmental
degradation, and scattered human interactions across a globally
connected yet fragmented world. The calm, measured rhythm of the
reading aims to foster vivid mental imagery among the audience.
Concurrently, in a separate area, the performance is broadcast live,
with the narrator’s image rendered as a point cloud. This digital
representation, evoking a ghost-like form, leverages laser scanning
technologies commonly used in contemporary mapmaking. The point
cloud not only visualizes the performer but also metaphorically connects
to the themes of surveillance and virtual presence explored in the poem.
This reading performance combines literary expression with advanced
digital visualization to challenge perceptions of presence and reality. The
use of live point cloud imagery and the thematic focus on surveillance
and pollution underscore a critique of modernity’s technological
overreach and its societal impacts.
