WILLIAM FERNANDES PAOA

Dear Internet wanderer,

I am William Fernandès Paoa.

My work lives between CGI, video, photography, sculpture, performance, and poetry, grounded in a keen sense of media research. I critically engage with cultural representation, post-colonialism, and the global circulation of images. With a critical eye on contemporary tendencies to craft alluring visuals that mask deeper political and social narratives, my practice confronts these constructs head-on.

I recently returned from a year-long journey around the world — without flying. Slow travel. Land, sea, patience. I collected material for an artistic project about tourism and exoticism — two concepts we rarely question but love to consume.

In addition to my artistic endeavors, I have pursued academic research, earning a Master’s in Education from HEP Vaud in 2023. My thesis, which investigates peer assessment’s impact on self-efficacy in the visual arts, is published and accessible in the HEP archives.

I’m interested in how the globalized world constructs “beautiful” images to distract from uncomfortable truths.
